inzwischen in verschiedensten Teilen der Welt.
Als Peer-to-peer-Projekt interessiert sich
Dreams of Art Spaces Collected* besonders für
von Künstler*innen initiierte Projekträume und
experimentelle Institutionen. Gespräche über
solche Räume sind das Objekt der Sammlung. Sie
werden per Video aufgenommen und über Internet
und DVD-Editionen verfügbar gemacht. Fragen, wie
die Räume entstanden sind, wie Kunst präsentiert
und vermittelt werden kann, eröffnen die Gespräche;
die Frage nach Dreams oder geträumten
Visionen machen das utopische Potential sichtbar,
das hinter den konkreten Orten steht.
Kunstbegriffe und Begriffe von Kunsträumen
werden immer wieder neu definiert. Unsere Sammlung
konzentriert sich auf Räume für zeitgenössische
Kunst jenseits des „modernen“, neutralen
„White Cube“. Es handelt sich um Räume, die von
verschiedensten Seiten beeinflusst und aufgeladen
werden: durch die Betreiber*innen, durch
künstlerische und theoretische Beiträge, das
Publikum, Rezeption, Austauschbewegungen mit
Räumen an anderen Orten, insbesondere aber auch
durch die ganz unterschiedlichen lokalen Bedingungen.
Es sind zivile Räume, die — besonders in
Krisenzeiten — politisch werden.
Dreams of Art Spaces Collected ist ein performatives
Reiseprojekt, das durch die Bewegungen
der Sammelnden immer wieder neu aktualisiert
wird. Die ersten Reisen nach China, Australien
und in die Peripherie Europas folgten bestehenden
Kontakten, wobei die Auswahl der Projekte
durch den Rat verfügbarer Kenner*innen der
Szenen beeinflusst wurde. Ende 2014 erfolgte
eine Fortsetzung der Sammlung in Bangalore,
Kochi und Mumbai/Bombay.
Inzwischen wurden mehr als 50 Beiträge ver -
öffentlicht und in verschiedenen Zusammenhängen
als Ausstellung oder Symposium präsentiert.
_EN Contemporary art spaces are now
emerging in different parts of the world. As a
peer-to-peer project, Dreams of Art Spaces
Collected* is particularly interested in project
spaces and experimental institutions initiated
by artists. Discussions about such spaces are
the object of the collection. These are recorded
on video and made available on the Internet and
as DVD collections. Questions as to how the
spaces were created, how art can be presented
and communicated are used to initiate the
discussions; the question concerning dreams or
dreamed visions renders visible the utopian
potential behind the specific locations.
Although artistic concepts and terms related
to art spaces are constantly being redefined,
the space for contemporary art remains the
constant for our collection. However, this is
not a “modern”, neutral „White Cube“, but rather
a space charged by a variety of factors: operators,
artistic and theoretical contributions,
the audience, reception, exchanges with spaces
in other locations, and especially the local
conditions, which may differ fundamentally.
It is a civil space, which becomes political—
especially in times of crisis.
Dreams of Art Spaces Collected is a performative
touring project which is updated repeatedly
through the movements of those collecting the
material. The first trips to China, Australia,
and to the European periphery followed existing
contacts, with project selection influenced by
the advice of available experts on the respective
scenes. The continuation of the collection
at the end of 2014 took place in Bangalore,
Kochi, and Mumbai/Bombay.
Meanwhile, more than 50 contributions have been
published and presented in various contexts as
exhibitions or symposia.
