Das Video „Magliana“ von Moira Zoitl beginnt mit einer Autofahrt durch das Industrieviertel Magliana in der Peripherie von Rom. Die Kamera gibt lapidar den Blick aus dem Auto wieder. Man findet dort keine Fußgänger-Umgebung, sondern eine Architektur großer Formen mit wenig Details, die auf einen schnellen Blick ausgerichtet ist. Auch die von der Schauspielerin im Video angesprochene Verbindung zwischen der Sicht aus dem Auto und filmischer Wahrnehmung scheint bezeichnend für moderne Stadterfahrung zu sein. Die Situation im Auto kann ähnlich wie im Kino erlebt werden; körperlich abgeschirmt und distanziert ziehen Alltagsszenen und Stadtteile an einem vorbei; läßt man Musik dazulaufen steigert sich der filmische Charakter der Wahrnehmung weiter.
Moira Zoitls Video vermittelt Stadterfahrung als ein teilweise gescheitertes, bzw. absurdes Zusammentreffen von Innen und Außen, privatem und öffentlichem Raum. Dieses melancholische Scheitern und die daraus resultierende Verlorenheit werden durch das ausdrucksstarke Gesicht der Schauspielerin auf den Großen s/w Setfotos noch betont.

Thus the video magliana begins with a car drive through the industrial area of Magliana, on the periphery of Rome. The camera reproduces dispassionately the view from the car. Here is no environment for pedestrians, but large-scale architecture with little detail, geared to brief glimpses. The connection – mentioned by the actress in the video – between the view from the car and cinematic perception seems typical of the modern attitude to cities. The situation in the car can be experienced similarly to that in the cinema: physically shielded and at a safe distance, you see everyday scenes and urban areas go past: and if you listen to music at the same time, the cinematic character of your perception increases.
Moira Zoitl’s video conveys the experience of a city as the partially failed or absurd encounter between interior and exterior, private and public space. This melancholy failure and the resultant isolation is apparent in the facial expression of the actress on the large black-and-white set photographs.
